Washington and Hancock counties share a district attorney as members of Prosecutorial District 7. During the last legislative session, the Washington County Commissioners asked for the introduction of legislation to split the district; separating Hancock and Washington counties from each other. The bill was one of many that was left unresolved when the pandemic forced the closure of the Maine State Legislature.
The Commissioners are interested in measuring the level of public backing for this endeavor by gauging whether or not to continue the effort to introduce legislation to make the change. To do this, the Commissioners have issued municipalities a straw poll. If you believe the districts should be split, there is a signature sheet located at the City Building.
Results from the straw poll need to be submitted no later than October 30th!
