Request for Proposal, Legal Services

The City of Calais, Maine hereby solicits proposals from legal firms to represent the City as its City Solicitor. The firm selected would serve as Chief Legal Advisor to the City Council, the City Manager, all City Departments, including the School Department and various City boards, agencies, committees and commissions for a contract term beginning May 1, 2021, and concluding May 1, 2024.

The City of Calais selection will be based on its evaluation of the written proposal, the firm’s qualifications and experience, client references, and overall fee structure.

Proposals will be received by the City Manager of Calais, City Building, 11 Church Street, PO Box 413, Calais, Maine, 04619, until 12:00 P.M. on April 22, 2021. Proposals must be sealed and clearly marked, “Legal Services for the City of Calais.”

Respondents must submit a written proposal.  Written Requests for Proposals are available at the Calais City Building.

The City of Calais reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to select the legal firm deemed to have submitted a qualified proposal (fee and other factors considered), when in the judgement of the City such an award is in the best interest of the general public.

Public Works: Full-Time Mechanic

The City of Calais is currently accepting resumes for a full-time Mechanic in the Public Works Department. This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel driven automotive and construction equipment. Considerable experience as an automotive mechanic particularly on heavy equipment involving welding is desired. Must have experience with hydraulics and air brake systems. Must possess at least a high school diploma or its equivalent, a valid State of Maine Class B driver’s license, State of Maine inspection license or be able to obtain license within 6 months of employment and have physical strength and agility sufficient for performing the duties. Part- Time and On Call Firefighter-EMT’s and Per Diem Paramedics

Calais Fire-EMS is looking for “on call” Firefighter-EMT’s We offer free training for the job. We have all the proper equipment to make the job as safe as possible. If you have the desire to help your neighbor, this is the job for you.

Calais Fire-EMS is also seeking per diem paramedics. Experience and training as a firefighter would be beneficial. Calais Fire-EMS offers a competitive wage.
