HELP WANTED:  Library Director

The Calais Free Library is seeking a Library Director who is energetic and personable; is committed to public service and who recognizes the importance of every library user. The Library Director will work under the direction and supervision of the City Manager and will work closely with, and have the support of, the Library Board of Trustees.

The Director manages and supervises library operations and is responsible for developing and managing the library budget, supervising personnel, overseeing library programming, developing and implementing procedures and overall responsibility for materials selection. 

The applicant should have excellent oral and written communication skills, thorough knowledge of current library practices and resources, technology skills, developing and managing budgets and considerable experience in the operation of a public library. This requirement may come from a Master's Degree in Library Science or from any equivalent combination of experience and training.

HELP WANTED:  City Manager

The City of Calais, Maine is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of City Manager. Salary DOQ/E & Excellent Benefits. 7-member council elected at large with staggered terms. $5.1 million budget, excluding schools. 30 full-time employees. Full service city including municipal water and sewer departments.

Calais serves as the regional service center for eastern Washington County and is a busy port of entry from Canada to the United States.

The City Council is seeking a candidate with prior municipal management experience. There is a preference for an educational background in Public Administration, strong organizational/leadership abilities, solid budgeting skills, knowledge of economic development techniques and the ability to communicate effectively.

 HELP WANTED:  Per Diem Paramedics

Calais Fire-EMS is currently seeking per diem Paramedics. Also, Paramedic students currently in class, in good standing, and with State EMT Advanced licenses are also welcome to apply. The City of Calais offers a competitive wage. 

Paramedics work a rotating 24 hour shift, which consists of 24 hours on, 48 hours off, 24 hours on, and 96 hours off.  Experience and training as a Firefighter would be beneficial. Applicants with a proven history of excellent patient care and customer service are encouraged to apply.
